Race Summary of GNR 2021
It was definitely the most wonderful half marathon that I ever did so far. It was cloudy, cooling, little bit of wind at some stretch, great atmosphere with lots of spectators along the way, cheering and supporting us with performances like drums, dance, loud cheers, holding cardboards with motivational quotes and list goes on!
I am so grateful of being able to be the elite category and toe the starting line with Olympians, World Champions, National Record Holders and list goes on!
To be honest, Half Marathon is not my thing at the moment, but I always wanted to run a fast time for this course as my last attempt of this distance was on 5 years ago in Nike We Run KL 21K, whereby I DID NOT FINISH as I collapsed at about 800m before reaching the finishing line. It was due to dehydration and hypoglycemia.
I then went back to 5-10k, sharpen the speed first before attempting another HM and I got into Towerrunning sport in year 2017.
Here we go, after 5 years, while there are not many Towerrunning races, why not give the HM another try. I got confirmation for the slot 6 weeks prior to it and start the training rightaway.
I then got Coach Albert to prescribe me a 6 weeks training program rightaway and did a 5k, 1k and 200m time trial to find out where my current fitness level is.
Juggling between the Towerrunning training, HM program and traveling here and that are not that easy especially during the pandemic time. I clocked a total of about 72km + 1200 floors + 2 weight training sessions weekly for not just the HM but Germany Towerrunning Championship on 29/8.
I started off the race with quite a fast pace and slowly got back into the rhythm. Initially, I was aiming for a Sub 72 min HM (5k - 15:48 | 10k - 33:26). My previous best time was 1:23:59 in Kuching HM 2015 (5k - 17:36 | 10k - 36:42).
After 5k mark, I felt the tiredness, but I tried to still hold the pace. At 10k, until right after we make the U-turn, it was all great still, although I felt the tiredness on my legs already and it was like, half way there!

အသက္၂၄ႏွစ္အရြယ္ရွိျပီျဖစ္တဲ့ စုန္႔ေဝခ်င္းဟာ မေလးရွားႏုိင္ငံ၊ မာလာယာတကၠသိုလ္ရဲ့ အားကစားသိပၸံေက်ာင္းသားတစ္ဦးလည္းျဖစ္ပါတယ္။
ေဝခ်င္းဟာ မာရသြန္အေျပးျပိဳင္ပြဲေတြအျပင္ Towerrunningလုိ႔ေခၚတဲ့ အေျပးျပိဳင္ပြဲေတြလည္း ဝင္ေရာက္ယွဥ္ျပိဳင္ေလ့ရွိပါတယ္။ ၂၀၁၈ၾသဂုတ္လတုန္းက ထုတ္ျပန္ေၾကညာခဲ့တဲ့ Towerrunning ကမာၻ႔အဆင့္သတ္မွတ္ခ်က္မွာ သူဟာ အဆင့္၁၀ေနရာမွာ ရပ္တည္ေနေၾကာင္းသိရပါတယ္။ အေ႐ွ႕ေတာင္အာ႐ွမွာေတာ့ နံပါတ္တစ္ပါ။
မာရသြန္အေျပးျပိဳင္ပြဲမွာေတာ့ သူ႔ရဲ့အေကာင္းဆံုးစံခ်ိန္ေတြက မီတာငါးေထာင္ကို 15:57မိနစ္နဲ႔ မီတာတစ္ေသာင္းမွာေတာ့ 33:26မိနစ္ျဖစ္တယ္လို႔ဆိုပါတယ္။
မေလးရွားႏုိင္ငံတြင္း တကၠသိုလ္အဆင့္ျပိဳင္ပြဲေတြမွာ ေရႊတံဆိပ္ေပါင္းမ်ားစြာရယူထားခဲ့တဲ့ ေဝခ်င္းဟာ စင္ကာပူႏုိင္ငံမွာက်င္းပခဲ့တဲ့ 2016 AUGမာရသြန္ပြဲစဥ္ေတြမွာ ပါဝင္ယွဥ္ျပိဳင္ခဲ့ျပီး မီတာငါးေထာင္မွာ အဆင့္၅နဲ႔ မီတာတစ္ေသာင္းျပိဳင္ပြဲမွာ အဆင့္၇အသီးသီးရရွိခဲ့ပါတယ္။

Soh Wai Ching, a reputed runner at National Level, will represent Malaysia in 19th ASEAN University Games. It is going to be his second time to represent Malaysia for AUG.
The 24 years old runner studied Sports Science at University of Malaya. He is outstanding in Towerrunning, currently World Rank 10th in the Towerrunning World Association Ranking (Updated Aug 2018).
For Road Races, his current personal best for 5k – 15:57 minutes and 10k – 33:26 minutes respectively.
At University Level, he collected more than 25 Medals. He represented Malaysia to ASEAN University Games in Singapore for both 5,000m and 10,000m. He came back with 5th placing and 7th placing respectively.
He is aiming for Malaysia National Record for both 5,000m and 10,000m. Other than that, he is also aiming to be World No.1 Towerrunner.

上尾市半馬拉松 (Ageo City Half-marathon)
成績 1:12’57 (PB + HKR)
13’ 本是理想,12’ 簡直不敢相信。
常問教練我要練多久時間才能有某某人的能耐,
他總會說: it’s up to you!
是的,看得出我未夠時刻拼搏專注嗎?
上回 20k & 10k 賽因害怕撞牆辛苦而沒有跟上去,
教練沒有怎樣責怪,還經常帶我食好吃的晚餐,
心裡更是內疚,一想到世上有很多人挨著餓苦幹,
而我那麼肥那麼會躲懶還有豐富的食物..
賽事回顧:
天文預測星期六日會下雨,星期五落機時已開始,
心想會否就提早一日完,結果今天到賽場熱身時還下著。
上起跑線前夕雨停了!
5m - 鳴槍不久,地滑人推連翻摔倒兩次,還把別人背上的號碼布都扯掉了😅 [是否每次成功背後總先 PK一下]
10km - ~34’28 (Road PB),還得硬跟上男團,因折返後記得有長逆風路段
13km - 右脾後肌舊患復發,剩餘八公里唯有交托給我天父,若是衪旨意,願我能成就
16km - 想起徐志堅柏林229全馬頭半程 1:13’45,若我要闖, 我的僅一個半馬怎能跟不上他。要抖就多跑幾公里才抖。

New HK record set with 1:12’57
13’ is ideal while 12’ is unexpected.
Ever asked coach how long would I have to train and get the ability of someone. He replied, ‘it’s up to you!’
Yup, maybe he notices that I do not always focus and work hard enough.
Last time I stayed back in both Jp 20km & Asics 10km because of fear of overpace and hardship. Coach didn’t blame on me, but brought me to have good food every night. It made me feel more guilty, especially once I think of many people in world are working hard but still suffering from hunger. How can I deserve to have big meal as I am such fat and lazy.
Race review:
Weather forecast predicted it’d be raining on Sat & Sun. But rain came earlier on Fri until the moment that I stood on the starting line.
5m - fell down twice owing to wet track and clash. A number paper was smashed by me from sb’s back 😂
(Is it a must to be knocked down before every sucess...?)
10km - pb~34’28. Kept trying to follow the men group as I know there would be a long way with head wind.
13km - Rt hamstring (old injury) recurrent. The remaining 8km was entrust to my heavenly father. If this is His will, I hope I can fulfil.
16km - Recollect Tsui Chi Kin’s Berlin FM(2:29). His first half was 1:13’45. If I have to go near 2:30, how can my HM-only race not catch up his pace? So I forced myself to run harder for few more km before allowing to take some rest.
